Travelling to Brandenburg Region

Brandenburg is the German federal state surrounding the capital city, Berlin. The name originates from a historical margraviate called Mark Brandenburg, and the name itself comes from one of the oldest towns in the area, Brandenburg an der Havel.

An inviting lake landscape in the northern part is a continuation of the Mecklenburg Lake District to the north. Another impressive lake region lies southward around the town of Lübbenau and is known as the Spreewald. Here, you'll find a charming canal system and gondola-like boats, reminiscent of Venice.

A particularly exciting attraction is Tropical Islands – an enormous water park and spa. Originally intended as a site for building contemporary airships, the company went bankrupt, and a Malaysian company transformed the area into a fantastic water park. The water park is located on a former East German airbase, once visited by Russian leaders during their trips to the GDR.

A somewhat daunting experience is visiting the town of Eisenhüttenstadt near the Polish border. During the communist era, it was known as Germany's first socialist city. The city planning and architecture were heavily influenced by "Stalinist ideals," making it an intriguing place to explore.
