THE HISTORY OF THE HOTEL The Elite Park Avenue Hotel is a prestigious establishment located in the heart of Gothenburg, Sweden, on the city's main boulevard, Avenyn. Construction began in 1948 under the guidance of renowned architect Nils Einar Eriksson, and the hotel was inaugurated on June 8, 1950. At its opening, Park Avenue Hotel made history as the first hotel in Sweden to feature a bathroom in every guest room. Initially, the hotel had around 200 beds, and in 1974, an expansion added 114 more rooms and several conference facilities. Originally owned by the City of Gothenburg with major shareholders including prominent local companies, the hotel changed hands in 1979 when it was acquired by SAS, becoming the SAS Park Avenue Hotel and later the Radisson SAS Park Avenue Hotel.
